Mr. Ponnambalam Adcharamoorthy Passes Away

We regret to inform you that Mr. Ponnambalam Adcharamoorthy passed away peacefully on February 27, 2011 at age 80.

Mr. Adcharamoorthy is the beloved husband of Parameswary, father of Chandra, Vasantha , Pathma, Indra and Yoga, and father-in-law of Mahalingam of Ottawa, the late Logarajah of California, Vijayakanthan of Montreal, Jayakumaran of New Jersey and Sivananthan of Texas. Grandfather of Suresh, Ganesh, Shiva, Shankar, Jenani, Jeyanthan and Priya.

Born in Maathahal, Jaffna and living in Ottawa from 1983, Mr. Adcharamoorthy has been a pillar of the Ottawa Tamil community for the past 28 years. As the Tamil residents of Ottawa get caught up in the roller-coaster ride of life and death, immigration, unemployment, education of the next generation, world peace, social services, Mr. Adcharamoorthy has been their first point of contact and the main support person until the issues are resolved.

Mr. Adcharamoorthy was honoured by NCRTA for his relentless volunteer services to the Ottawa Tamil community in its Sixth Annual Indoor Winter Event held yesterday.

He has been recognized and honoured twice by the City of Ottawa. First in 2007 as the Ottawa (senior) Citizen of the year and in 2010 by the Mayor of Ottawa for his devoted service in promoting interfaith dialogue and understanding among faith communities.
